The Local Area

Sandsend is a delightful picture postcard village with pubs and cafes dotting the sea front. It is a very walkable three miles (depending upon the tides of course) along Whitby's sandy beach, at the end of the bay - hence its name! Two becks run into the sea and form Sandsend's main feature, each one having its own distinct character.

Once here, getting around is straightforward, whether you bring your car, walk, cycle or choose to use the reliable forms of public transport that leave regularly from the village. The hotel is also fortunate to be ideally situated near a wide variety of tourist attractions to cater for all tastes and requirements. Heartbeat country for example is only eight miles inland.

The hotel is conveniently located to visit the beautiful village of Grosmont, the North York Moors National Park and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. As the hotel is situated very close to Whitby, the Whitby Museum is not to be missed and contains a wide range of fascinating local history.

The historic city of York is located less than an hour and a half away by car and so is perfect for a day out for couples and families. There is a wide range of attractions and activities - more information is available from York's official visitor information service.
